FEST3D is a software tool for the analysis and design of passive components which has been
developed within the frame of several ESA/ESTEC research projects during the last 15 years. Therefore,
FEST3D is an ESA product which makes it unique. In fact, the current FEST3D software is a heritage
of previous FEST3D software tools developed by ESA/ESTEC. In particular, previous FEST3D versions
like FEST 2.0, FEST 2.2 and FEST 3.0 and software tools such as DUMAS and WIND can be considered
forerunners of the present software.
The current electromagnetic kernel was developed under the ESA/ESTEC activity "Integrated CAD Tool for Waveguide Components". Later on, within the project "Passive Component Microwave Tool", new capabilities were included. After that, an ESA/ESTEC activity "Multipactor and Corona Discharge: simulation and design in microwave components" allowed to include an electromagnetic field solver and two modules for the prediction of the Multipactor and Corona RF discharge breakdown power onsets into FEST3D.
The current version of FEST3D is the one arising from ESA/ESTEC project "FEST3D Distribution" which has recently concluded. Within the frame of this project, Aurora Software and Testing S. L., ITlink srl and EPFL have raised
FEST3D quality and have prepared it for its final distribution to the space sector industry.
FEST3D makes use of the most advanced electromagnetic algorithms which ensure a high degree of accuracy as well as reduced computational resources (in terms of CPU time and memory).
